Why Chiropractic?

I fell in love with chiropractic care because its purpose is not the treatment of conditions or disease; instead, it is based on the restoration of normal body function.

As a holistic chiropractor, I address the nervous system via your spine with gentle spinal adjustments. By reducing stress-related interference to the nervous system, overall body function levels UP.

All the systems of the body โ€” circulatory, digestive, eliminatory, hormonal, glandular, immunological, muscular, reproductive, respiratory, and skeletal โ€” depend on the optimal function of your spine and nervous system.

Howโ€™s your nervous system holdinโ€™ up?

Some questions I get asked oh so frequentlyโ€ฆ

Why do I need a prenatal chiropractor (before birth)?

It is important to get prenatal chiropractic from a doctor who is certified in Webster Technique through the ICPA. This technique addresses neuro-biomechanical tension of the uterus and pelvis, allowing for the pelvis and birth canal to expand through pregnancy, labor, and birth. When there is tension on the uterus it can restrict the movement of the baby (and we all know how much babies prefer to move and wiggle!). Imagine trying to get into a bed when all the sheets are tucked in. If we can release uterine tension and balance the pelvis, itโ€™s as if we are โ€˜untucking the sheetsโ€™ and allowing more room to move so the baby can find optimal positioning. Some pregnant women report feeling their baby move more after receiving Webster Technique.

Is it safe to be adjusted while pregnant?

Yes! Chiropractic, in general, is very safe and effective. Dr. Ashley has done extensive specialized training to care for pregnant mamas. With advanced education in perinatal care, we understand pregnancy and the special needs that come with this exciting time of life. We use special tables and specifically designed pregnancy pillows to ensure mama is both safe and comfortable during adjustments.

Do I have to keep coming in after birth (postpartum)?

Immediately following a womanโ€™s birth, the body immediately begins working to tighten the ligaments and realign organs and bones, but it is a process that takes time (up to a year in fact!). And while this is happening, you are altering your body by holding your new baby, learning to breastfeed, and surviving in a state of exhaustion. A new motherโ€™s body is not in its peak performance state.

Seeing a chiropractor immediately after birth grants you the ability to jump-start your bodyโ€™s healing process. Chiropractic care ensures proper blood flow to these tightening ligaments, aligns the spine to allow proper communication within your nervous system (the way the brain and body communicate), and as an added bonus can alleviate aches, pains, and other symptoms.

What are some things to look for when trying to find a chiropractor?

The #1 thing you should look for in a chiropractor is someone who talks about your nervous system. Pain is the last sign of dysfunction so there is a lot more happening within your body before you physically feel it. A side effect of removing interference to your bodyโ€™s nervous system โ€” which allows your body to heal itself โ€” is that your pain goes away. Chiropractic is not about back pain or neck pain because itโ€™s so much more than pain relief, but weโ€™re also really good at getting you out of pain in a model that isnโ€™t symptoms and bandaids.

Why would a baby or child need to see a chiropractor?

The lasting effects birth has on the health of infants and children is not something that is addressed in conventional healthcare. Some things that can cause trauma during birth include:

Very long labor
Pain medications
Restricted birthing positions
Pulling or twisting on babyโ€™s head during delivery
Cesarean

When this trauma is left uncorrected it can often cause neurological dysfunction and kick a childโ€™s nervous system into fight-or-flight mode, causing many health challenges that could have been prevented. Nursing difficulties, sleep disturbances, inability to be soothed, colic, constipation, and reflux are examples and signs of how spinal nerve stress can impact infants.

Do you accept insurance?

Insurance coverage is HUGE for a lot of people & this is a common question I get. In short, no. We are a direct pay office and all of our practice members pay at the time of service or pre-pay on one of our monthly plans. We are not in-network with any insurance companies because we cannot deliver our standard of care when a third party is involved, telling us what we can and cannot do for our practice members. Insurance companies are designed for short-term symptom relief which often relies on drugs and surgery, not prevention and wellness (unfortunately).

Chiropractic care is the foundation for true healing because it unleashes your bodyโ€™s innate ability to heal itself. Other therapies such as acupuncture, massage, nutrition, etc. are incredibly healing and I love referring to other practitioners in the area who offer those services that work synergistically with chiropractic care because we begin to see not just an increase in that personโ€™s ability to adapt to their environment, but also how their environment evolves and better supports their overall lifestyle.
